The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has ushered in a new era with the appointment of Dr. Musibau Olasunkanmi as its Registrar/Chief Executive, effective immediately.
This announcement was made on Friday, following the approval of the Institute’s Governing Council during its December 15, 2023 meeting. According to a statement released by ICAN, Olasunkanmi’s appointment signifies a strategic decision aimed at cultivating an exceptional leadership team to steer the Institute towards a future characterized by sustained growth and influence.
Olasunkanmi assumes the role of Registrar/Chief Executive, succeeding Mr. Mukaila Lawal, the Acting Registrar/Chief Executive, who is set to retire on March 1.
Bringing over 16 years of professional experience across various functional areas, coupled with leadership roles in both the private and public sectors, Olasunkanmi is poised to lead ICAN into a new chapter of success. His academic credentials include a PhD in Forensic Accounting & Audit from Charisma University, Turks and Caicos Island, UK; M.Sc. in Accounting from Afe Babalola University; MBA from the University of Lagos; B.Sc. in Accounting from Adekunle Ajasin University; and HND in Accounting from the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti.
ICAN expressed optimism regarding the innovative leadership that Olasunkanmi will bring to the organization, anticipating continued success under his stewardship.

As stipulated by the ICAN Act (Cap. 185), the Registrar is tasked with the preparation and maintenance of a register containing the names, addresses, approved qualifications, and other pertinent particulars of individuals entitled to be enrolled as fellows or associates, or registered as registered accountants, in accordance with the Act’s provisions.
