The Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, has ordered the immediate withdrawal of the Commissioner of Police on election duty in Adamawa State, Mohammed Barde.
In a bid to ensure a free and fair electoral process in the keenly contested supplementary governorship poll, the IGP directed the CP in charge of Gombe State, Etim Equa, to take over election security in Adamawa State.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this to pressmen on Tuesday in Abuja.
He added that the redeployment was necessary to guarantee a peaceful and credible election.
Earlier on, INEC officials reconvened at the state collation centre in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, amidst a heavy presence of security operatives.
Adamu Gujungu, the INEC Administrative Secretary in the state, who replaced the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Hudu Yunusa Ari, was present at the centre.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, is also expected to be present.
