The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the purported declaration of Aisha Dahiru Binani, the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in Adamawa State, as null and void.
The state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) had announced Binani as duly elected, but the commission stated that only the Returning Officer has the constitutional mandate to make returns and that the election had not been concluded at the time of the declaration.
INEC has summoned the REC and other officials involved to its headquarters in Abuja. The collation of results of the supplementary election is hereby suspended until further notice.
