Last Monday the Govermment of the Ivory Coast announced that the terrorist head of a deadly group, who raided and attacked a military post at Kafolo, on the northeastern border with Burkina Faso on the 11th of June has been captured after a widespread and large-scale raid by the Military.
The Minister of Defense, Mr Hamed Bakayoko, said that as a result of this raid many people directly involved in the attack were arrested.
“We traced it back to their commander in Mali, who was arrested. And I can tell you that the head of the commando who led the action was taken yesterday. And with our investigations, we will go further. We will establish who he was in contact with. Who is behind it,” Minister Bakayoko said.
He added that that the Ivorien Army were able to make the arrest of all who participated in the assault, thanks to photographs discovered in mobile phones.
The spokesman of the Ivorian Military said that about 10 soldiers died and six civilians were wounded during the June 11 assault. It was a pre-dawn attack on the border post by some dozens of miscreants.
“Also it was the first incident by extremists on Ivorian soil since March 2016, when a raid on the southeastern beach resort of Grand-Bassam left 19 people dead.”
