The body who run the big university entrance exam in Nigeria, JAMB, have admitted they made some mistakes in the 2025 exam. This test, known as the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), is super important for students who want to go to university. It checks them on four subjects, and everyone has to take English.
The boss of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, spoke in Abuja on Wednesday. He said, “We messed up a little, and what should have been a happy time for students turned sour.” About 1.9 million students took the exam, but many didn’t do well. Over 1.5 million got less than 200 out of 400 marks. Only a tiny group of about 4,756 students scored 320 or more, and just 12,414 got 300 or higher. Half of the students, around 983,187, scored between 160 and 199, which is often the lowest score schools accept.
This has made a lot of people angry. Some students further claimed the exam had problems like computer glitches and questions that weren’t finished. Now, they are so upset they are still considering taking JAMB to court. Parents and students are also unhappy because JAMB did not fix things fast enough.
