US President Joe Biden has extended his congratulations to King Charles III and Queen Camilla on their coronation day on Saturday.

Despite not attending the ceremony in London, the President praised the “enduring friendship between the U.S. and the U.K.” in a tweet.

The First Lady, Jill Biden, represented the United States instead, and the President expressed his pride that she could attend the “historic occasion.”

In an interview with MSNBC, Biden mentioned that he plans to meet the new monarch in July to discuss the environment.

He said that they would be able to meet during the NATO conference scheduled to take place in Vilnius, Lithuania on July 11 and 12.

The President had earlier called King Charles in April to congratulate him on his accession to the throne. Biden remarked that the relationship between the two countries is a “source of strength for both our peoples.”
