Kelechi Iheanacho Linked with Nottingham Forest Move as Talks Progress

Super Eagles’ striker, Kelechi Iheanacho, is reportedly in discussions with Nottingham Forest, as the English Championship club aims to secure the services of the former Manchester City star. Nottingham Forest has already initiated preliminary talks with Iheanacho, and further negotiations are scheduled for this week, according to sources from owngoalnigeria.com.

Nottingham Forest, narrowly avoiding relegation to the English Championship last season, is keen on bolstering their squad with the addition of the Nigerian international. Should an agreement be reached between the two clubs regarding the transfer fee, Iheanacho will join Taiwo Awoniyi and Emmanuel Dennis as the latest Nigerian players to join Nottingham Forest.

The 26-year-old Iheanacho made his move from Manchester City to Leicester City in 2017 for a fee of £25 million. Since then, he has amassed an impressive record of 55 goals in 206 appearances for the club.

In a separate development, Cyriel Dessers, the Cremonese striker, has opted against joining Scottish Premier League side Glasgow Rangers, choosing to continue his career in Serie A. Dessers was considered a potential replacement for the departing Alfredo Morelos, with Coach Michael Beale looking to strengthen his squad ahead of the anticipated tough competition from Celtic in the upcoming season.

Reports from Italy suggest that Dessers prefers to stay in Serie A unless he receives appealing offers from English, Spanish, German, or French clubs. Despite interest from clubs such as Torino, the 28-year-old striker has shown a preference for remaining in Italy. In the previous season, Dessers recorded six goals and two assists in 36 appearances.

Rangers have had success in recruiting Nigerian players in recent years, with Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey among their notable stars during their journey to the Europa League final a couple of years ago.
