Kenyan authorities have apprehended Nadeem Anjarwalla, a fugitive executive from Binance, as efforts intensify for his extradition to Nigeria, according to sources within the government. The International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) is coordinating the extradition process, slated to occur within the week.
Speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, government insiders confirmed the arrest on Sunday night, affirming that Anjarwalla would face extradition to Nigeria in the coming days.
Anjarwalla’s whereabouts came under scrutiny after his evasion of custody in Nigeria was uncovered by the Federal Government. Following his escape, a collaborative effort involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), INTERPOL, the Nigerian Police Force, and the Kenyan Police Service was initiated to expedite his return.
Reports indicate that Anjarwalla sought refuge in Kenya upon leaving Nigeria, but efforts to conceal his location proved futile. Nigerian authorities, in partnership with INTERPOL and other international agencies, are actively engaged in bringing him back to face charges related to tax evasion, currency speculation, and money laundering.
Ola Olukoyede, Chairman of the EFCC, underscored the agency’s commitment to curbing financial irregularities, emphasizing the collaboration with global law enforcement entities to prosecute Anjarwalla and his associates. The extradition process is a pivotal step in holding accountable those implicated in illicit financial activities, he added.
As Anjarwalla’s extradition looms, a concerted effort involving multiple nations underscores the resolve to combat financial crimes and ensure justice is served.
