David Nwamini, the potential kidney donor in the organ trafficking case that led to the imprisonment of Senator Ike Ekweremadu, his wife, and the doctor-middleman, has stated that he wants to remain in the UK because of fears that he could be arrested or killed if he returns to Nigeria.

The Old Bailey found the trio guilty of conspiring to exploit a young man’s body part by arranging for him to travel to the UK.

David was brought to the UK to donate his kidney to the Ekweremadus’ daughter, who has a severe kidney disease.

At the sentencing, David’s impact statement was read out in court, where he stated that he had not agreed to any of this and that his body was not for sale.

He also revealed that someone had visited his father in Nigeria and asked him to drop the case.

Although it is legal to donate a kidney, it becomes illegal if there is a reward. The Ekweremadus were arrested at Heathrow Airport on June 21 last year.
