The 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, has dismissed rumors of a rotational presidency agreement involving himself, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and Labour Party’s Peter Obi. Speaking in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service on Monday, Kwankwaso clarified that he has not held discussions or made any political pacts with the two politicians.
He stated his decision to remain politically neutral until the end of the year to allow governments at all levels to focus on governance without distractions. The former Kano State Governor accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of using manipulative tactics to sway northern voters in future elections, describing such moves as insincere and exploitative.
“For me to accept any arrangement, we have to go back to history,” Kwankwaso said, highlighting his disillusionment with the PDP. He recounted how several prominent figures, including himself, Peter Obi, and Nyesom Wike, were forced out of the party due to internal conflicts.
Kwankwaso also debunked claims that a consensus had been reached within the PDP for Atiku to serve as president for four years, followed by him for another four years, and Peter Obi for eight years. “This is a complete lie and has no basis in reality,” he emphasized, expressing disappointment that senior figures were spreading such falsehoods.
The former governor criticized the PDP’s actions, stating that they had caused significant damage to the party and led to the exodus of key members. He added, “Maybe they are remorseful or seeking forgiveness, but we have witnessed the worst humiliation from these people.”
Kwankwaso concluded by reiterating his commitment to fairness and historical accountability in any future political arrangements.
