The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Lagos is poised to deliver its judgment on Monday, concluding the legal challenges to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s election victory. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate, and Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor and representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have contested the outcome of the March 18 governorship election.
The panel, led by Justice Arum Ashom, conveyed this announcement to the involved parties on Saturday.
On August 12, legal representatives presented their final written arguments before the tribunal. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the March 18 governorship election.
Sanwo-Olu secured a resounding victory, defeating the Labour Party’s Rhodes-Vivour, who finished in second place. Governor Sanwo-Olu received 762,134 votes, while Rhodes-Vivour garnered 312,329 votes. Olajide Adediran (Jandor) of the PDP finished a distant third with 62,449 votes. The tribunal’s judgment will determine the outcome of these electoral disputes.
