The Lagos State House of Assembly has begun a debate to impeach Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for spending money which had not been approved by the legislative arm of government and rumours also have it that Gov. Ambode has been secretly funding the campaign of Mr Jimi Agbaje who is the Governorship candidate of the opposition party.
Late last year some threats were issued to the governor after the governorship primary election of the APC, where the incumbent Governor lost to the candidate of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in person of Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Rumours had it that after a bitter loss, Governor Ambode diverted some funds through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to help fund Jimi Agbaje’s campaign.
The governor has however, pledged his loyalty to the party, denying allegations of treachery.
Ambode is also accused of moving against the APC’s attempt to make a former Chief Security Officer to Tinubu, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos and insisting that his secondary school classmate, Imohimi Edgal, remains the CP.
