The Lagos State Government is set to begin a comprehensive medical outreach aimed at providing essential healthcare services to 50,000 residents, starting Thursday, May 30, 2024. This initiative, directed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was announced by the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso.
Omotoso highlighted the government’s dedication to enhancing healthcare accessibility for all residents, stating that the outreach will be conducted across all six health districts in Lagos. This effort is part of the broader Eko Cares program, designed to alleviate economic hardship and improve public health.
Residents will benefit from free medical check-ups and treatments, including blood sugar and blood pressure screenings, HIV counseling and testing, eye exams with free glasses, and treatment for minor ailments. Additionally, free medications, health insurance registration, and LASRRA registration will be available.
The ‘Alafia Eko’ medical outreach will feature four events per health district in its first phase, aiming to reach approximately 25,000 people initially. Specific locations across the six health districts include:

Omotoso underscored the importance of this program in improving primary healthcare efficiency and ensuring that all residents have access to quality medical services. He remarked that this initiative aligns with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s strategic vision to transform the health sector into a key economic contributor and to guarantee that every resident receives the necessary medical care.
Additionally, the Eko Cares program includes a 25% reduction in transport fares and free deliveries for expectant mothers in general hospitals. It also offers a 25% reduction in food prices at Sunday markets, among other benefits.
