Lagos train tragedy claims two lives and leaves several injured

On Thursday morning in the Shogunle area of Ikeja, an accident involving a moving train and a Lagos state Staff bus resulted in two confirmed deaths and injuries to others.

Reports have it that state government employees were the two casualties.

It was discovered that the blue staff bus was attempting to cross the tracks while the train was moving. It was dragged from the PWD bus stop by the train’s magnet to Shogunle, where it came to a stop.

Witnesses claimed that the obstinate driver would not come to a stop at the level Crossing.
Witness Babs claims that the driver refused to pass when the NRC keepers at that level Crossing prevented him from doing so due to the approaching train. He thought he could get through before the train arrived.

According to South West Zonal Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, who confirmed the incident, the State Government staff bus was attempting to cross the PWD/Sogunle rail crossing when it was trapped on its rail by a train coming into Lagos from Abeokuta.

The activities are still going on. Search and Rescue came to an end. The bus’s carcass is currently being removed, “Farinloye added.

At the same time, members of the Nigeria Railway Corporation team, LASEMA, NEMA, Police, FRSC, and Civil Defense are at the rescue scene.
