Late own goals leave Manchester United facing a challenge in Europa League quarter-final

Manchester United’s chances of progressing to the Europa League semi-finals were dealt a blow after Sevilla secured a 2-2 draw in the first leg of their quarter-final tie at Old Trafford on Thursday.

United had appeared to be heading for a comfortable victory after two first-half goals from Marcel Sabitzer, but two late own goals from Tyrell Malacia and Harry Maguire proved costly.

United will also have to cope without Bruno Fernandes in the second leg on April 20 due to a yellow card that led to a suspension.

Despite missing top scorer Marcus Rashford, United dominated the first half and Sabitzer took advantage with two well-taken goals.

The return of Anthony Martial from injury provided a boost, but Sevilla threatened late on and secured the draw with the two own goals.
