Lucky Aiyedatiwa has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo State, slated for November 16, 2024.
The announcement of the final results was made by Usman Ododo, the Chairman of the APC Governorship Election Committee and Governor of Kogi State. Aiyedatiwa secured victory with 48,569 votes, surpassing 15 other contenders from 17 out of the 18 local government areas. Notably, the election did not take place in Ifedore Local Government Area due to reported security concerns.
Explaining the absence of polling in Ifedore, the Returning Officer, Oliver Okpala, cited a shooting incident that deterred residents from participating in the electoral process.
Mayowa Akinfolarin emerged as the runner-up, garnering a total of 15,343 votes.
Addressing the aspirants before the declaration of results, Ododo emphasized the importance of party unity and collaboration for the progress of the APC. He urged them to rally behind the chosen candidate and work together towards the party’s success.
Quoting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ododo underscored the notion of political contests as opportunities for service among members of the same family, urging unity within the party regardless of electoral outcomes.
In response, the party Chairman, Ade Adetimehin, expressed appreciation for the committee’s efforts and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to maintaining its position as a formidable force in future elections.
