Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has made a swift recovery and is set to feature in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Manchester City.

The Croatian, who won the Ballon d’Or in 2018, was initially ruled out of the encounter after suffering an injury a week ago.

Earlier reports indicated that the unspecified injury could sideline him for the rest of the season.

However, Modric made a late appearance in Madrid’s Copa del Rey final victory over Osasuna on Saturday and is now expected to play a role against Man City on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the game, Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Modric was fit to play and would be available for selection. “He can play without problem. He is going to play,” Ancelotti said.

Modric’s return is a boost for Madrid as they look to secure a positive result in the first leg of the highly anticipated clash with Manchester City.
