Manchester City has added Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders to their squad in a deal worth around £46.3 million, bringing him in from AC Milan. The 26 year old joins just in time to feature in the upcoming Club World Cup and becomes City’s fourth new signing this week.

Reijnders, who had an impressive season at Milan with 15 goals in the 2024/25 campaign, expressed his excitement, calling the move a “dream come true.” He’s expected to fill the gap left by Kevin De Bruyne, who recently left the club. “City are one of the biggest teams in the world, with the best coach and top-class players,” Reijnders said after signing a five-year contract.

This transfer follows a busy few days for Pep Guardiola’s side. Rayan Cherki (from Lyon), Marcus Bettinelli (Chelsea’s backup keeper), and Rayan Ait-Nouri (from Wolves) were all announced earlier in the week, showing the club’s intent to bounce back after finishing third in the league last season.

Club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak admitted City had been too quiet in last year’s market and said the current transfer activity is part of a wider squad rebuild. City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, said Reijnders brings “energy, calmness, and creativity” to the midfield and will grow even stronger under Guardiola’s guidance.

City will now turn their attention to the Club World Cup, kicking off their campaign against Wydad Casablanca on June 18 in Philadelphia. The tournament features 32 teams this year, and City enter as the reigning champions after their win in Saudi Arabia two years ago.
