Authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, have said that there is no cause for alarm over threats by a cult group to unleash violence on the university campus. The university has responded saying that the situation is under total control.
The public relations officer of the university, Mr Biodun Olarewaju, in a statement said all the agencies of government saddled with the responsibility of securing lives and property have been put on red alert, apart from the internal security mechanism which he did not expatiate on.
Cultists of Aloha clan, a secret society in OAU posted a letter online in which it spoke of plans to invade the campus on June 1 to unleash destruction on students and other members of the university.
But Olarewaju was quick to assure all parents and guardians that the security of their children and wards is guaranteed, and advised students to go about their normal academic activities without any apprehension.
However, students were adviced to be security-conscious and quick to report any strange movement to the appropriate organ of the university.
