Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek.

Van de Beek, 23, had been linked with Real Madrid and Barcelona, while Tottenham were also credited with an interest in the Dutchman.

United are now on the verge of securing his signature for an initial fee of £35million. Various add-ons could potentially take the deal up to £40m.

Van de Beek has agreed a five-year contract with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side and is set for a medical early next week.

The Netherlands international was left out of the Ajax squad for Saturday’s friendly against Hertha Berlin as talks with United reached an advanced stage.

Van de Beek’s move to United may have been helped by the fact Ajax’s chief executive is former player Edwin van der Sar.

Van de Beek has been with Ajax since he was a boy, breaking into their first-team in 2015. He’s scored 41 goals in 175 appearances and has ten international caps.
