Macky Sall emerged winner of the February 24 presidential election held in the country where he beat four other aspirants winning about 58percent of votes. Although his opponents rejected the result of the election they have refused to contest against it.

In keeping with the electoral laws, the constitutional court confirmed the victory of Sall on the 6th of March 2019. Macky had a total of 2,555,426 representing 58.26% with his closest rival, Seck with a total of 899,556 representing 20.51%.

The 58 year old will be serving his final mandate as stipulated by the constitution of Senegal which states that a president can only serve for two terms. History has it that Senegal has one of Africa’s most stable democracies since its independence in 1960 as it is yet to experience military intervention.

Today, the city of Diamniadio is buzzing with with lot of activity as Senegal is swearing in President Macky Sall today. The occasion has a lot of dignitaries in attendance amongst whom are President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria, President George Weah of Liberia, Mahamadou Issoufou of Niger, Adama Barrow of Gambia to name but attendance few.
