Monaco’s prominent French forward, Wissam Ben Yedder, is currently under investigation following accusations of rape, as revealed by Nice’s public prosecutor to AFP on Thursday.
The reported incident occurred on Monday in the town of Beausoleil, situated just north of Monaco on the renowned Cote d’Azur.
Xavier Bonhomme, the public prosecutor, confirmed the existence of two rape allegations from two separate victims involving two individuals. The second person involved has yet to be identified, he stated.
According to reports from France Info radio station, two women, aged 19 and 20, have accused Ben Yedder and his younger brother of coercing them into engaging in sexual acts following a night out.
Ben Yedder, aged 32, who last represented France in June 2022, recently joined Monaco for pre-season training earlier this month.
Monaco Football Club responded to the news with a statement acknowledging their awareness of the published information regarding Wissam Ben Yedder. However, due to the ongoing judicial process, the club refrained from making any comments.
In April, Ben Yedder faced a conviction of tax fraud by a Spanish court during his tenure at Sevilla, resulting in a six-month suspended prison sentence and a fine of 133,798 euros ($149,753).
