Legendary Nigerian singer and actress Onyeka Onwenu has passed away at the age of 72. The beloved artist reportedly collapsed at a birthday celebration for Mrs. Stella Okoli on Tuesday night and was subsequently taken to Reddington Hospital in Lagos, where she was pronounced dead.
An eyewitness at the event shared the sorrowful news: “It’s heartbreaking. Onyeka Onwenu had just performed at Mrs. Stella Okoli’s birthday party. After her performance, she suddenly collapsed. She was rushed to Reddington Hospital, but unfortunately, she didn’t make it.”
Onwenu’s family has not yet issued an official statement regarding her passing. The acclaimed singer and actress is fondly remembered for her music albums, including In The Morning Light and Dancing In The Sun, as well as her roles in notable films such as Half of a Yellow Sun and Lionheart.
