The Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law has filed a lawsuit urging the court to remove Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, from office over alleged National Youth Service Corps Act violations. They also seek to nullify certificates issued to Musawa and music promoter Kenny Ogungbe, claiming they contravened NYSC Act Cap N84.LFN 2024.

Plaintiffs, John Aikpokpo-Martins and Funmi Adeogun of NBA-SPIDEL, allege Musawa and Ogungbe unlawfully exceeded the age limit for national service, labeling their service and certificates as null and void. They seek declarations barring them from employment without presenting NYSC certificates and removing Musawa from her ministerial position.

Musawa faced previous accusations by the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria in August 2023 for serving as a minister while undergoing NYSC. Similarly, Ogungbe sparked controversy in October 2023 by sharing a photo in NYSC uniform at age 53.
