The Acting Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju, has declared a state of emergency on passport issuance in response to the difficulties faced by Nigerians in obtaining passports.

This announcement highlights the urgent need to address the challenges through a comprehensive plan of action. Adepoju emphasizes the NIS’s commitment to resolving these issues and calls for efficiency, transparency, and excellence in service delivery.

To eliminate barriers and ensure prompt passport issuance, Adepoju has directed all Passport Control Officers and relevant personnel within the NIS, including missions abroad, to work diligently.

The NIS is adopting technological advancements and implementing administrative measures to enhance the application and issuance process.
During her recent visit to Lagos, Adepoju inaugurated a Visa on Arrival Lounge at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, demonstrating her dedication to improving the travel experience for visitors entering Nigeria.

She also made an unscheduled visit to the Alausa Passport Office to assess the situation firsthand.
Furthermore, she emphasized the importance of collaboration and community engagement in combating human trafficking during her visit to the palace of the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, and called for joint efforts with traditional rulers.

Adepoju urges Nigerians to remain patient and cooperate with the NIS as they take decisive steps to address the passport crisis. She assures the public that every eligible Nigerian in need of a passport will be able to obtain one in a timely manner. By streamlining the process and alleviating the challenges faced by citizens, the NIS aims to enhance efficiency and provide a smoother experience for passport applicants.
