The Nigerian Navy (NN) successfully intercepted a significant drug smuggling operation in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State, recovering over 200 bags of cannabis weighing a total of 10,000 kilograms (kg).

This remarkable accomplishment was made possible through the implementation of Falcon Eye, a cutting-edge maritime awareness domain facility technology.

During a press conference held in Apapa, Commander Kolawole Oguntuga of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Beecroft revealed that the interception occurred on July 3, 2023. Commander Oguntuga explained, “Using the Falcon Eye, we detected the criminal activity of transporting bags of cannabis from boats to the shore. Acting swiftly, our patrol teams on water and land sprung into action to ensure the criminals could not escape.”

As the Navy personnel approached, the criminals fled the scene, but the authorities were able to seize the illicit cargo consisting of over 200 bags of cannabis. Commander Oguntuga emphasized that the confiscated drugs would be handed over to the appropriate agency to ensure due process is followed and that it would be handled according to standard procedure.

Commander Oguntuga expressed the commitment of the Nigerian Navy, led by Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), to ensure that criminals face appropriate consequences for their actions. He further conveyed gratitude for the unwavering support received in their pursuit of a crime-free nation.
