NLC agrees to deal with non abiding Governors

The President of The Nigeria Labour Congress, Ayuba Waba was addressing a rally about the need for good governance before he sent out a group of delegates to present a list of Labour demands to vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Earlier this week, President Muhammadu Buhari planned to release of a new increased salary package for civil servants. Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, ASCSN, has promised to lock horns with governors who are bent on not paying the new salary structure. This was restated yesterday by Mr Bashir Lawal, The Secretary General of the Association of Senior Civil servants of Nigeria, who stated that workers should quickly report any State Governor who has refused to pay the stipulated amount.

Workers in the Nigerian Public sector are said to be living in pain and abject poverty as they earn one of the lowest wages in the world. But analysts have it that political office holders in the Nigeria, including members of the nation’s bicameral legislature earn some of the fattest wages in the world.

Mr Lawal, who is an active member of the tripartite committee has argued that the Federal Government has enough resources to pay the wage demanded by labour without having to borrow.
