The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has given the federal government a seven-day deadline to resolve the fuel and naira crises or face mass mobilization for action.

Joe Ajaero, president of the NLC, made this statement in Abuja while speaking to journalists about the results of a congress meeting called by the Central Working Committee.

According to Ajaero, Nigerians, particularly workers, had been pushed to the brink and were unable to remain silent.

He stated, “It is actually difficult for Nigerian workers to access their hard-earned money in banks, and Nigerians are questioning the banks’ inability to provide them with the money they were asked to pay into the bank.”

You would also have noticed that petroleum products are difficult to see. A liter of gasoline can cost upwards of N350 in some regions of the country.

“The National Labour Congress (NLC) has given the federal government of Nigeria and its agencies, such as the Central Bank of Nigeria and other banking institutions, seven working days to address the cash crunch issue.

“The congress will direct all workers in the country to stay at home if they fail to do this by the end of the seven days because it has become very difficult to access money to enter vehicles to their workplaces.

“On this issue of fuel, the congress wishes to inform the federal government that we will no longer keep quiet on this issue of perpetual fuel scarcity and arbitrary increases on petroleum,” the congressional statement reads.
