Obasanjo Urges Nigeria to Seek Zimbabwe’s Guidance on Tackling Inflation

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has advised the Nigerian government to seek assistance from Zimbabwe in addressing the country’s soaring inflation.

Speaking at a youth leadership symposium on the occasion of his 87th birthday, Obasanjo highlighted Zimbabwe’s recent success in overcoming a similar inflationary crisis, suggesting that Nigeria could benefit from their experience. With Nigeria’s inflation rate hitting 29.9 percent, the country is facing widespread protests due to the high cost of living, particularly in food prices.

Emphasizing the importance of dialogue over violence, Obasanjo urged African nations to prioritize peaceful conflict resolution. He stressed the need to instill a culture of peace and security among the youth, citing biblical figures like Esther and Joseph as examples of peaceful resolution.

Obasanjo also emphasized the role of the youth in promoting peace, urging them to persuade others to opt for dialogue instead of resorting to violence.

The symposium, organized by the Centre for Human Security and Dialogue in collaboration with the Institute for African Culture and International Understanding, aimed to underscore Obasanjo’s commitment to empowering African youth for positive change.
