On Friday, the Labour Party, LP, in Ogun State responded to reports that the party’s executive committee had endorsed Governor Dapo Abiodun for a second term.

The party portrayed the support as questionable, abominable and deplorable.

Leaders of the LP had announced that they would form an alliance with the All Progressives Congress, or APC, in the state and had endorsed the governor for a second term.

However, the Labour Party’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Tokunbo Peters, said in a statement that the alleged endorsement was not only false but also a poor attempt to fool the general public and voters into thinking that the Labour Party is working with the All Progressive Congress in Ogun state.

Peters stated, For the record, the Ogun state branch of the Labour Party denies any involvement in the alleged endorsement of Prince Dapo Abiodun for a second term. It also makes it clear that, despite the fact that the ruling party has made overtures to the Labour Party, the Labour Party is completely opposed to any kind of alliance with the APC. This takes into account the fact that the state’s APC government lacks strategic leadership. Moreover, the Labour Party and the APC are already in court over the manipulated results of the most recent presidential election.

“It is well-known that Engr. Lookman Jagun is the de facto Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the Labour Party in Ogun state, and that Michael Ashade, who is said to have endorsed the governor, has been suspended from the party for a very long time. While Michael Ashade and his companions are allowed to embrace and support any applicant of their decision in their singular limit, they ought to abstain from utilizing the name of the Work Party while making such supports.

Criminal offenses include impersonation and intentional misrepresentation. It should not be interpreted as if a constituted authority, such as the State Government, welcomes and accepts imposters in exchange for anticipated political gains.

“The Labour Party is persistently pursuing judicial redress for the systemic disenfranchisement as a result of the non-listing of her candidates in the State elections.

“Meanwhile, the Labour Party will, at the appropriate time, make an open endorsement of its preferred candidate for the gubernatorial election, in response to the eventual non-listing by INEC of its gubernatorial candidate. Meanwhile, the Labour Party will continue to promote the ideals of good governance, social welfare, and service delivery. However, the good people of Ogun state, who have long suffered under the APC government, will benefit from whoever the Labour Party chooses to support.
