After years of obscurity, Olajumoke Orisaguna, famously known as the Lagos bread seller turned model, is making a triumphant return this time as a broadcaster.
Jumoke first gained nationwide attention in 2016 when renowned photographer TY Bello discovered her during a photo shoot on the streets of Lagos. Her meteoric rise from selling bread to gracing magazine covers inspired millions, but her journey was fraught with challenges.
Four years ago, Jumoke’s life took a downturn after falling victim to a fraudulent manager. She revealed that the manager siphoned funds from her endorsement deals and business engagements, leaving her destitute. Speaking during a meet-and-greet event titled The Comeback of Olajumoke (Oni Bredi), hosted by the Cardinal Foundation, she recounted her hardships.
“I really suffered and lost everything,” Jumoke shared. “She [the manager] took me to South Africa twice for a documentary, but I paid for our flights and accommodation. When we returned, she only gave me ₦50,000. I had nothing left and had to call people for food.”
In her darkest moments, TY Bello and Azuka Ogujiuba, CEO of Media Room Hub, came to her rescue. They provided financial and emotional support, with Ogujiuba paying her rent, furnishing a shop, and sending foodstuffs to sustain her family.
Reflecting on the ordeal, Jumoke expressed deep gratitude. “I’ve learned my lessons and will never leave those who truly mean well to me again.”
Ogujiuba, who had pursued legal action against the former manager, recounted how the case failed to yield justice, as the manager was released and ignored police invitations. Despite this, Ogujiuba took further steps to support Jumoke’s recovery by introducing her to Mrs. Adedoja Allen, the CEO of City FM and founder of the Cardinal Foundation. This connection opened the door for Jumoke to transition into broadcasting, offering her a chance to rebuild her life.
Now, with her newfound role as a broadcaster, Jumoke is determined to reclaim her narrative and inspire others through her resilience and grace.
