The late Onyeka Onwenu, a legendary Nigerian singer and actress, will be laid to rest today (Friday) in Lagos.

The renowned music icon, affectionately known as the “Elegant Stallion,” passed away on July 30, 2024, at the age of 72. She reportedly died after collapsing at a birthday celebration for Mrs. Stella Okoli, the Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals, and was later pronounced dead at Reddington Hospital in Ikeja.

The family has released the details of the funeral arrangements, which include a service at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, followed by a private interment at a cemetery in Ikoyi, Lagos State. The funeral flyer indicates that the Service of Songs will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, with the burial scheduled to take place between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Onyeka Onwenu was not only celebrated for her musical talent, with albums like In The Morning Light and Dancing In The Sun, but she also made significant contributions as a broadcaster, actress, politician, and activist.

She will be fondly remembered for her roles in films such as Half of a Yellow Sun and Lionheart, as well as for her lasting impact on the Nigerian music and entertainment industry.
