Oyetola declared winner of the Osun governorship election as tribunal fires Adeleke.

Ademola Adeleke has been fired from his position as governor of Osun State and Gboyega has been declared the winner of the governorship election by the Osun State Election Petition Tribunal.

The tribunal declared that Oyetola, the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) seeking a second term in office, won the July 16 Osun governorship poll, annulling Adeleke’s election as the PDP candidate.

In a majority decision, Justice Tetsea Kume stated that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not substantially comply with the Electoral Act and the Constitution.

After subtracting the observed overvoting from the candidates’ votes, he declared that Oyetola had won the election with 314, 921 votes, while Adeleke had received 290, 266 votes.

The judge told INEC to take away Adeleke’s certificate of return and gave one to Oyetola, who got the majority of the legal votes.

At the time of filing this report, the judges’ decision is being read.

In the Osun State governorship election, PDP candidate Adeleke was declared the winner by INEC on July 17.

In the Osun State governorship election, the PDP candidate prevailed in 17 of the 30 Local Government Areas (LGAs).

In the remaining 13 LGAs, APC candidate Oyetola was declared the winner by INEC on Sunday morning.

Overall, Adeleke of the PDP received 403,371 votes, while Oyetola of the APC received 375,027 votes.

Oyetola was defeated by Adeleke, a former senator and younger brother of Isiaka Adeleke, the state’s first governor, by about 44,426 votes.

Akin Ogunbiyi of the Accord Party, Goke Omigbodun of the Social Democratic Party, and Lasun Yusuf, the former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, who ran on behalf of the Labour Party, were among the 13 other candidates who participated in the election
