Paul Oyewole, a pastor in Ondo State, has been accused of publishing and posting his own obituary on WhatsApp in an effort to avoid paying back a $3 million debt to a church member.

Reports have it that on Wednesday, the 43-year-old pastor was arraigned at the Chief Magistrate Court in Ondo Town, Ondo, on charges of fraudulently obtaining 3 million from Boyede Emmanuel with the promise to repay the money within seven days, which he failed to do.

Akao Moremi, the police prosecutor, told the court that the defendant sent a fictitious bank alert and then posted a fake obituary on WhatsApp.

Additionally, he was accused of “threating the complainant on the phone, with the intent to intimidate him and also conducting himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace, by stripping himself naked in front of the complainant’s house.”

The charges have been refuted by Oyewole in a plea deal. He was granted bail of N1 million with two equal-sized sureties.
