PDP Youth Leaders in Ondo State Demand Governor Akeredolu’s Return, Threaten Legal Action

In a bid to highlight the situation regarding the Ondo State Governor’s absence, the PDP youth leaders have expressed their concerns. Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s extended stay outside the state has drawn criticism from various quarters. Last month, he returned from a medical vacation in Germany but has remained in his personal residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The PDP youth leaders had earlier issued a 3-day ultimatum for the governor to return, which expired on Thursday. Speaking at the state secretariat of the party in Akure on Friday, Mr. Oluyi Tayo, the convener of the PDP youth wing, emphasized their intention to pursue legal action if the governor continued to stay away.

Tayo stated, “It is crucial that the House of Assembly, in the interest of our state and its citizens, upholds these constitutional provisions to ensure the continued and effective functioning of our government. If the House of Assembly fails in this regard, we won’t hesitate to explore other legitimate Constitutional means to press our demands.”

“We have written a letter to the state House of Assembly, and as we speak, our people are there to deliver the letter. We expect them (lawmakers) to receive the letter. We are ready as a main opposition party to take the governor to court if necessary.”

Meanwhile, the youth leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-West zone have condemned the PDP’s call for Governor Akeredolu’s resignation. Mr. Lawal Kolade, South-West Youth Leader of the APC, described the PDP as a “confused and dying party in the state” and expressed support for the governor’s need for rest and recovery.

Kolade commented, “There is no doubt that Akeredolu is well-loved by the people of Ondo State, considering their massive electoral support. The decision of Governor Akeredolu to seek rest and adjust their normal work schedule to allow him to fully recover is a testament to his human nature.”

The situation remains contentious, with the PDP pressing for the governor’s return and the APC youth leaders emphasizing their support for Governor Akeredolu’s recovery.
