The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Mr Seyi Makinde, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State as winner of the just concluded gubernatorial election.
As announced by the state collation officer, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe of the University of Lagos, at the state office of INEC, Ibadan, on Sunday, Seyi Makinde raked a whopping sum of 515,621 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Chief Adebayo Adelabu of the All Progressives Congress who had 357,982 votes.
During the course of announcement of results by the collation officers, there was serious fear over the late arrival of the collated results from the Ibadan South West Local Government, as some unknown thugs were said to have invaded the INEC office at town planning and burnt the results.
However, the situation was brought under control as INEC regenerated the results from the duplicated copies already with the respective party agents.
PDP also won the House of Assembly election with PDP having twenty-six seats, APC with five seats, while ADP with only one seat.
