Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has revealed that he has received death threats from loyalists of President Bola Tinubu following his recent critique of the current administration. Obi made this alarming claim in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating that his New Year message, which posed critical questions about the state of the nation, has provoked serious threats to his life and those close to him.

The situation escalated after Felix Morka, the national spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC), accused Obi of repeatedly crossing the line and warned that he would face the consequences. In a recent interview, Morka described Obi as an “irrational being” and urged Nigerians to dismiss his critical remarks about the government’s performance.

In response, Obi took to social media, challenging the allegations against him and defending his right to speak out. He questioned whether his comments had truly crossed any legal or moral boundaries, emphasizing his commitment to decorum and truthful discourse. Obi expressed concern over what he perceives as an increasingly authoritarian and repressive regime that is systematically suppressing freedom of expression.

Obi reiterated his resolve to speak the truth and advocate for a freer society, urging Nigerians to reflect on the current state of governance and the importance of safeguarding democratic practices.
