The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has expressed strong disapproval of the Federal Government’s consideration to add new aircraft to the existing Presidential fleet.

This criticism follows a recommendation from the House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence to purchase new planes for President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima.

In a post on his verified X handle on Monday, Obi labeled the move as “unacceptable” and “insensitive” to the economic hardships faced by Nigerians.

“It is unfortunate that the government is prioritizing luxury expenses while the country struggles with economic challenges,” Obi stated. “It is unacceptable that the government is considering purchasing new presidential jets when Nigerians are wallowing in poverty. This is a clear show of insensitivity to the suffering of the Nigerian people.”

Obi’s remarks come at a time when the country is grappling with severe economic woes and follows the government’s decision to sell three planes from the Presidential Air Fleet earlier this year.
