Planned nationwide strike postponed by resident doctors

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors has postponed its nationwide strike preparations.

After reviewing the procedure at the association’s National Executive Committee meeting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, the decision was made to halt the planned action.

As a result of the government’s inability to respond to their demands, the doctors had earlier in January threatened to organize a nationwide strike.

As a result of their protests against the non-payment of the new hazard allowance and the resulting adjustment to the minimum wage to some of its members, the doctors are seeking an upward review of the medical residency training fund.

According to reports, doctors praised the Federal Government for promptly releasing the reviewed circular on the medical residency training fund at the conclusion of the NEC meeting.

Additionally, the committee commended Chris Ngige, Minister of Labor and Employment, for the additional measures taken to improve its members’ welfare.
However, the doctors requested reimbursement from the Federal Government for all other outstanding debts to its members.

They also asked the Nigeria Governors’ Forum to get the governors of Abia, Ekiti, Imo, and Ondo states to pay their members’ salaries, which they say are still owed for three to 25 months.
