Police and Protesters clash in ongoing Sudan protest

The faithful people of Sudan took to the street to protest against the 30 year leadership of president, Omar Al-Bashir. This protest began about 5 weeks ago. They have filled the air with chants of ” Down, that’s it” which signals that the president should step down.

They didn’t forget to chant “Freedom! Freedom!” and “A million martyrs for a new era!”. The protest went intense and some protesters threw stones at the police and overturned a Police vehicle. Seeing this, the police who were on guard shot live ammunitions to keep protesters at bay but sadly, a 60 year old Othman Moawia was hit and he died. This action vexed the protesters.

Othman Moawia was buried on friday and around 5,000 people who were mourning turned out for the funeral.

Mourners didn’t stop the protest as they blocked a main street in the Burri district of the capital Khartoum with stones and chanted “There is no God but God!” and “Martyr! Martyr!”. Several were wailing and crying and some were carrying Sudanese flags.

As the atmosphere in the area grew more tense, the police and other security forces had to vacate the Burri area completely, leaving no security presence on its streets.
