18 out of 26 lawmakers in the Ogun State House of Assembly voted to impeach Speaker Olakunle Oluomo during a plenary session led by Deputy Speaker Mrs. Bolanle Ajayi. The Assembly subsequently elected Mr. Oludaisi Elemide, currently representing Odeda State Constituency, as the new Speaker.

The motion for Oluomo’s impeachment was initiated by Adegoke Adeyanju, an APC lawmaker representing Yewa North 1 State Constituency, and seconded by Ademola Adeniran, another APC lawmaker representing Sagamu II State Constituency. Elemide, the newly elected Speaker, assured the public of positive change, emphasizing the new leadership’s commitment to supporting Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Contrary to speculations, Elemide clarified that the governor had no involvement in the impeachment process. The impeachment was attributed to allegations of gross misconduct, high-handedness, lack of transparency, arrogance, poor leadership style, financial misappropriation, and inciting members against each other. The Clerk, Mr. Deji Adeyemo, and Deputy Clerk, Mrs. Funmilayo Adeyemi, were present at the plenary, alongside heightened security measures with the presence of police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps personnel at the Assembly complex.
