President Buhari Directs Outgoing Officials, Including Vice President, to Declare Assets


President Muhammadu Buhari has issued a directive requiring Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and all other officials leaving their positions to declare their assets. The President himself received his Declaration of Assets Form from Prof. Isah Mohammed, the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), at the presidential villa in Abuja.

The declaration of assets is a constitutional obligation for public officeholders before assuming office. President Buhari emphasized his commitment to adhering strictly to this requirement, both before and after taking office, as a means to enhance best practices, uphold moral standards in public service, foster integrity, and combat corruption.

In line with his stance, the President instructed that all outgoing officials, whether elected or appointed, starting from the Vice President downward, must collect, fill, and return the assets declaration form, just as he has done. President Buhari stressed that no one is exempt from fulfilling this constitutional duty.

Expressing his determination, President Buhari stated, “I signed, collected, and acknowledged receiving my form. From here, I will ask my bank manager in Kaduna to provide me with a record of all transactions in and out of my account.

Nobody is excluded from declaring their assets. I expect everyone, from the Vice President downwards, to follow the established system.”

Professor Mohammed praised the President’s compliance with the asset declaration requirement over the past eight years and the support he has extended to the Bureau. This support has resulted in an impressive 99% compliance rate among elected and appointed officials. Professor Mohammed also acknowledged the President’s assistance in digitizing the Bureau’s services and operations, which has significantly improved its efficiency in investigating cases.
