President Buhari eager to leave office after eight years of service


President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his eagerness to leave office in 37 days after eight years of being at the helm of affairs in Nigeria.

During the final Sallah homage held yesterday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Buhari pleaded with those he has hurt while steering the affairs of the state to pardon him.

The outgoing president thanked the people for tolerating him and for the love shown to him.
He described himself as a lucky man to have led Nigeria in various capacities, including governor, minister, head of state, and two-term elected president.

President Buhari chided those who claimed they couldn’t get justice in court, recalling that all Supreme Court justices in all the election cases he took to court were Muslims from the North and yet he lost.

He said, “Thanks to technology and the Permanent Voter Cards (PVC),” he became president in 2015.

Speaking with newsmen after observing the Eid prayer, the president said the future of democracy as a system of government is bright, and as he prepares to leave office in a little over a month, he feels satisfied and assured that Nigerians would defend the system against all threats. He also stated that the May 29th handover date remains sacrosanct.

President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, commended Buhari for his service to the country in the last eight years, saying the administration has done “tremendously well.”

He added that the legislature did much to support the administration to succeed and expressed satisfaction that the two arms of government were leaving office on a positive note.

He concluded by saying the new administration of Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu would continue with the progressive APC administration.
