PRESIDENT OF GAMBIA SACKS VICE PRESIDENT ON PRESIDENTIAL PREROGATIVE

President of Gambia, Adama Barrow has relieved his vice president, Ousainou Darboe of all his duties with immediate alacrity and he has duly appointed a replacement.

The cause of the sack is still very much unknown but the statement from the office of the president has claimed that the Vice President was sacked on presidential prerogative.

Barrow has been in power since 2017 and he has appointed his third vice president in the person of Isatou Touray, who till today held the health portfolio. She is expected to serve as Vice President while she still oversees the activities of the ministry of health.

Two other political allies of Darboe also lost their positions. Agriculture Minister Lamin Dibba and Minister to Trade, Regional Integration, Industry, and Employment, Amadou Sanneh were also fired by President.

Darboe was a key member of the opposition coalition that beat long-serving Yahya Jammeh in December 2016 polls. At the time, the coalition picked Barrow as candidate because Darboe was imprisoned.

He was released days after Jammeh was declared loser of the polls. He was later appointed Foreign Affairs Minister, a post he held till June 2018 when Barrow appointed his Vice President.

He replaced a former minister Fatoumatou Jallow Tambajang in the role. Isatou will be the second woman VP in three years.
