PRESIDENT OF SOUTH AFRICA AND THE AFRICAN UNION CHAIRPERSON CALLS ON CHINA TO ACTIVELY SUPPORT THE CONTINENT IN THE FIGHT AGAINST THE CORONA VIRUS PANDEMIC

The venue was an extra-ordinary virtual Africa- China Summit. South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa and the AU Chair Person asked China for further solidarity during this period of global pandemic.

The South African President explained that all through the Continent, Africans are in dire need of testing kits, medical supplies and isolation centers to enable them quarantine and treat the increasing numbers of affected persons.

“We urge China to support and contribute to this call, or to propose alternative options that can be considered on an urgent basis to help support the private sector on our continent,” Ramaphosa said.

On record, Africa has over 335,791 confirmed cases as of June 25 with 8,856 deaths so far. Post lockdown era is about to commence for some countries and some of these countries are trying to relax measures in both containment and prevention.
