Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa has quickly come to the defence of his country regarding the latest economic move in the country with the ban on use of foreign currencies as announced by the finance minister on Monday.

President Emerson stated that the measure was a sign that the country was returning to normalcy after the multi-currency regime of the last few years. He claimed that the government deserved to be praised in this regard.

He clarified the status of foreign currencies stating that it still allows international transactions with the economy but they are yet to ban the possession of any other currency.

The central bank announced that starting June 24th all foreign currency trading in the country had been forbidden and directed that the medium of exchange to be the Zimbabwean dollar.
