President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has picked Shamseldeen Ogunjimi to be the new Accountant-General of the Federation. He starts work on March 7, 2025, replacing Oluwatoyin Madein, who’s retiring that day. Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s info aide, shared the news on Tuesday, saying Ogunjimi earned the job after a tough contest. The process had tests, computer checks, and interviews, all run by a team of top government accountants to keep it fair and square.
Ogunjimi, 57, knows money inside out. He got his first degree in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a Master’s from the University of Lagos. He’s also a big shot in accounting and tax groups in Nigeria. Tinubu’s people say this pick shows they’re serious about fixing how Nigeria handles its cash making it open and smart. Ogunjimi beat others in a three-step race that started back in December 2024.
Come March, he’ll be in charge of the country’s funds, making sure everything adds up right. Tinubu told him to work hard and stay honest, promising to build a stronger system for Nigeria’s money. With his years of know-how, Ogunjimi’s ready to steer the ship. Nigerians are hoping he’ll bring some good change.
