President Tinubu Suspends Central Bank Governor Emefiele Amid Ongoing Investigation and Financial Sector Reforms

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken the decision to suspend the Central Bank Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, from his position, effective immediately.

In an official statement released by Willie Bassey, the Director of Information for the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, it was stated that the suspension was a result of the ongoing investigation into the activities of Emefiele’s office and the forthcoming reforms planned for the financial sector of the economy.

Under the directive, Emefiele has been instructed to transfer the management of his office’s responsibilities to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will assume the role of acting Central Bank Governor until the investigation is concluded and the reforms are implemented.
