President Tinubu Urges New National Assembly Leadership to Swiftly Engage in Governance


President Bola Tinubu has delivered a message to the recently elected leaders of the 10th National Assembly, urging them to quickly settle into their roles and expedite the process of governing.

Godswill Akpabio, former governor of Akwa Ibom State, emerged victorious in the Senate presidential election, defeating Abdulaziz Yari, the former governor of Zamfara State.

Meanwhile, Jibrin Barau, hailing from Kano State, secured the position of deputy Senate president unopposed. Notably, both Akpabio and Barau belong to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In the House of Representatives, the APC continued its winning streak as Tajudeen Abbas claimed a resounding victory. Abbas garnered 353 votes, while his two challengers, Ahmed Wase and Aminu Sani Jaji, each received only three votes.

In a personally signed statement, President Tinubu expressed his delight with the newly elected parliamentary leaders. He stated, “The election of Akpabio and Abbas as Senate president and Speaker of the House of Representatives, respectively, is a positive development.”

President Tinubu also extended his congratulations to Yari, Wase, and Jaji for their participation in the leadership election, acknowledging their contribution to the process. He remarked, “We have all accepted the responsibility to serve our country diligently and faithfully, as mandated by the oath we took. It is now time to swiftly engage in governance for the betterment of Nigeria.”

“As your president, I am fully prepared to collaborate transparently with the National Assembly. The Nigerian people expect distinguished senators and honorable members to draft legislation and carry out oversight duties that will enhance government performance, ultimately improving their quality of life.”

President Tinubu acknowledged that disagreements may arise during their work together, but emphasized that these differences would not stem from malice, ill-will, or an intention to diminish the institution of the National Assembly or any individual member.
