President Bola Tinubu has pledged to address Nigeria’s surging inflation and revitalize the nation’s economy, offering assurances to citizens during his address at the APC Presidential Campaign Council’s 2024 Ramadan Iftar gathering at the State House.
Despite acknowledging the absence of a quick fix, Tinubu urged Nigerians not to despair, affirming his commitment to combat inflation. His remarks come against the backdrop of mounting economic challenges exacerbated by his administration’s removal of fuel subsidies and exchange rate unification upon assuming office in May 2023.
Recent data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reveals a concerning trend, with Nigeria’s inflation rate climbing to 31.70 percent in February 2024 from 29.90 percent the previous month. However, Tinubu reassured the nation of ongoing efforts to reverse this trend.
Addressing the campaign council, Tinubu reiterated the arduous task ahead, emphasizing the promise made to Nigerians during the electoral campaign. He stated, “I campaigned on hope, I have to rest on that hope, and push for that hope for the joy of every one of us. The economy is looking good, don’t worry about that.”
Acknowledging the inflation challenge, Tinubu assured citizens of proactive measures to mitigate its impact. He emphasized efforts to enhance revenue generation and assert Nigeria’s sovereignty on the global stage, stressing the need for self-reliance and resilience.
Tinubu concluded by rallying citizens to collective action, stating, “It is your effort, your thinking, your resourcefulness, your investment, your dedication, and hard work that can only get us there.” With a commitment to delivering on his promises, Tinubu’s administration aims to instill hope and steer Nigeria toward economic recovery.
